“Simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures. Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being. Patient with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are. Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world.”

― Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

Acupuncture with Jo

Acupuncture is one of the oldest holistic therapies, dating back several thousand years in China before spreading to Japan and Korea.  Based in ancient Chinese philosophy and rooted in the timeless principles of the Tao, Acupuncture is in essence about restoring balance and harmony within the body.

Energetic pathways we call meridians run the course of the body, and the Qi should flow freely within.  As injury, emotional upset and external conditions all impact our body's energy, Acupuncture moves and regulates the Qi flow, re-balancing and harmonising yin and yang.  Inserting ultra-fine needles into points on the meridians initiates a healing response within the body, and as the organs and meridian system are interconnected, this has a flow-on effect to the rest of the body.

Research has shown Acupuncture is beneficial to support immunity, to regulate the autonomic nervous system and for its anti-inflammatory effects.  Growing research highlights the relationship between the autonomic nervous system and emotional regulation (stress, anxiety, depression), not to mention its effects on the digestive system.  As inflammation is the foundation of many significant health challenges and stress plays a significant role in inflammation, Acupuncture can reasonably be considered an important part of a preventative care routine.

“Countless words count less than the silent balance between yin and yang”

― Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

Treatment is unique to the individual, and will be inspired by both the client's presenting symptoms and also information derived through palpation of the pulse and abdomen. Jo has a gentle, intuitive touch and ensures your experience is as nurturing as it is therapeutic.

Since qualifying in 2009, Jo has undertaken extensive further training in Japanese Acupuncture, Shonishin paediatric needle-free Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and treatment of Psycho Emotional conditions and Transcending Trauma. She utilises a variety of different techniques in her sessions, including Emotional Clearing.

"I have been practicing Acupuncture for ten years and have noticed that unless clients are addressing their emotional patterns, the emotions have a way of creating recurring problems within the physical body.  Using Emotional Clearing in conjunction with Acupuncture is potent, and part of the beauty of this system is that it eliminates the need to revisit whatever situation caused the initial imbalance (particularly useful when dealing with trauma).  In my experience, using Emotional Clearing with acupuncture is a beautiful and powerful way of resetting and re-balancing the body from the inside out.  It takes holistic treatment to another level - while addressing energetic imbalances within the energetic and emotional bodies, it then frees up the body's innate capacity to self heal and repair whatever blockages remain in the physical body."

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a gentle, heat based therapy that involves burning the dried herb Mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris) on or near the skin to produce a therapeutic effect.

Although the application is often performed directly on the skin, you will only experience a pleasant warming sensation - no burning!

Whereas Acupuncture works on the Qi level, moxibustion works on the blood level and will actually stimulate the production of red and white blood cells to elicit a local healing response.

Used to soften muscle tension, warm areas of cold, strengthen immunity and induce homeostasis, moxibustion is a beautiful complement to your Acupuncture treatment.

Jo loves to use moxa in her sessions as it provides a gentle and nurturing energy in the body and is deeply relaxing for both the physical body and the nervous system.

Please note that moxibustion therapy adjuncts to your Acupuncture treatment and is not offered as a stand-alone experience.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient therapeutic technique used to move blockages within the body's muscle layers and draw stagnation from deeper levels to the surface for release.  Although cupping uses fire to create a vacuum within the cup, it is nonetheless a safe and effective treatment method.

Cupping can be applied to either the back of the body or the abdomen, and is used to release muscular tension, alleviate muscle stiffness, support the body through colds and flu, relieve headaches and can even be used in gynecological conditions to diminish pain.

Please note that moxibustion and cupping therapies are adjuncts to your Acupuncture treatment and are not offered as stand-alone experiences.
